She subsequently served as an independent music video producer with such labels as Morgan Creek and A&M Records, working with such artists as Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Grover Washington, Jr., and Tom Scott. In addition to associate producing and supervising the music for the video documentary "Under Pressure: Making 'The Abyss,'" she demonstrated her wide spectrum of skills by serving as both producer and supplement art director for the "Terminator 2" Special Edition laserdisc. During her tenure with ILM she worked on such films as "Back to the Future II and III", "Ghost", "Joe Versus the Volcano" and "Terminator 2: Judgment Day".

Her computer graphics design and animation work includes "Star Trek: Generations" and "Strange Days." She produced a multimedia presentation featuring the Joffrey Ballet performing Prince's "Billboards" for the 1995 MacWorld Exposition in San Francisco, while concurrently serving as graphics producer on the Paramount film "Congo." In addition to being the company's CEO, she served as BFTR's computer graphics producer on such diverse shows as "Twister," "The Relic," "Dante's Peak," and "Jerry Maguire," as well as BFTR's effects producer on New Line's feature film "Spawn", Sony/TriStar's "Starship Troopers" and "Men In Black," Disney's "Jungle Book 2: Mowgli's Story", Fox/Paramount's "Titanic" and Fox's "Doctor Dolittle."

A summa cum laude graduate of the University of Southern California's (USC's) fabled School of Cinema/Television, VAN LING spearheaded the use of Macintosh systems for storyboard processing and visual effects design on writer/director James Cameron's feature film "The Abyss." In addition to serving as Cameron's technical researcher and creative liaison for all aspects of production on the film, he played a significant role in the design and creation of the visual effects, and subsequently served as Visual Effects Coordinator and Creative Supervisor on "Terminator 2: Judgment Day." He produced both "The Abyss" Special Edition and the "Terminator 2" Special Edition --the former of which was released theatrically in 1993-- and was the writer/director of the special laserdisc supplements for those films, widely regarded as two of the best laserdisc releases ever created. His graphic talents range from designing logos and trade ads to CD album covers, and he has served as a guest speaker to both university and computer/film industry audiences.

An active voice in the call for integrating digital technology into all areas of filmmaking, Ling served as Head of Production for Cameron's production company Lightstorm Entertainment for many years before forming BFTR with partner Casey Cannon. In addition to doing freelance consulting on such diverse areas as visual effects, digital graphics and laserdiscs, Ling created digital graphics and displays for the Kennedy/Marshall film "Congo" and the Amblin film "Twister." He has served as computer graphics designer and supervisor (and oftentimes as a research consultant) on such films as "The Relic," "Dante's Peak," "Starship Troopers" and "Spawn." In his copious free time he wrote and directed the supplement for MCA's "Field of Dreams" Signature Series laserdisc and created graphics for Joe Kane's now-industry-standard test laserdisc and DVD "Video Essentials." He served as BFTR's visual effects supervisor on "Doctor Dolittle", "Titanic", "Spawn", "Starship Troopers" and "Jungle Book 2: Mowgli's Story," as well as overseeing all creative aspects of both the outside and in-house projects at Banned from the Ranch as company president.
