The Academy Awards only scratch the surface in awarding achievement to the enormous talents in the visual effects industry. The 1997 VFX HQ Awards celebrate the finest in visual effects achievement in feature films. While the nominees and winners of The 1996 VFX HQ Awards were chosen solely by the VFX HQ; this year things will be a little different. 11 categories have been created, and the artists, supervisors, engineers, or any individual that helped create the most fantastic images of 1997 has the opportunity to apply for a nomination spot. The finalists have been determined (five per category), and the winners were selected by a panel of judges selected by the VFX HQ, populated by acclaimed and experienced effects professionals. The panel of judges is now online. Applications for nominee consideration were accepted through January 31, 1998. Finalists are now online. Winners were announced the first week of March, 1998.
