WARNER DIGITAL STUDIOS

After completing some of the best visual effects shots of 1996 and 1997, Time Warner shut down their very own visual effects studio, Warner Digital Studios.

On June 10, 1997, Warner notified the 150 person workforce of WDS of the news. The official reason? Never mind. The real reason? Time Warner, with its recent acquisition of Turner Broadcasting, could not afford to maintain WDS, especially since they dictated that WDS work solely on Warner Bros. releases. Read the Spotlight for more details.

In 1996, WDS shined in the 150 shots they produced for MARS ATTACKS--in 1997, they produced innovative effects for Joel Schumacher's BATMAN & ROBIN and Robert Zemeckis' CONTACT.
